We now have a final design and have been working towards producing a full set of engineering drawings and build instructions to assist in the manufacture of our race car. The majority of the manufacture will be carried out at Filton, however because of the complexity of the nose cone it will be laid up at the NCC into a mould 3D printed in the Additive Manufacturing Centre. In order to make sure that our car will be as efficient as possible we will be undertaking a series of tests to confirm the strength requirements of the chassis with a view to deciding which composite/metallic manufacturing technique we will be using.
In order to promote additive manufacturing and do our bit in developing the engineers of the future we have set up a number of Green power activity days in local schools. The days consist of a design/ manufacturing task, an interactive AM presentation and a GKN careers talk. The local schools in which we have conducted our workshop have provided very positive feedback.
Over the coming weeks and months we will be procuring all of the specialist parts we need, assembling our race car and conducting a range of tests along the way to make sure we reach the start line with the most competitive car possible.
